The frontal posture of almost abstractedly sculpted torsos suggests an obvious allusion to the Last Supper and partaking of bread as the symbol of Corpus Christi. But the philosophical implication of the composition is broader than this evangelic allusion. The torsos are like loaves of bread. Bread and the eaters are united into a single living body. We eat and are being eaten simultaneously. We eat bread in order to make the time of our existence longer, but time, too, eats us in its turn. We are the bread of time. Thus, the composition presents a metaphor of life as a repast.
