Winter St. Petersburg.
Since the middle of the 18th century, there have been two narrow wooden bridges on this site: Malo-Konyushenny across the Catherine Canal and Pervo-Konyushenny across the Moika River. In 1770, a theater appeared nearby on the Champ de Mars, thanks to which the Pervo-Konyushenny Bridge was renamed the Theater. For a long time, construction projects were drawn up to replace wooden, more durable metal bridges, but they did not begin to implement them. At the beginning of the 19th century, when reorganizing the space around the Field of Mars, architect K. Rossi also envisaged the creation of two new crossings near the confluence of the Moika River and the Catherine Canal. Thats when the idea came to connect these two bridges at one point.
