"…What could be more beautiful than a clear July morning on the slopes of the Stara Planina?.. .The village lay in a hollow among the wooded mountains. In the greenery of the gardens and vineyards gray-brown tile roofs were hidden. I walked along a bumpy road between the wicker hedges and trees with knobby trunks. White inflorescences of growing on the roadside aegopodium and anise whirled overhead. I went out to the tenderly gurgling river;.admired flowers and herbs bent their panicles and umbrellas to the water. On the banks the plants of gigantic proportions whether burdocks, or giant mother-and-stepmother substituted the morning sun with bright green plates of huge leaves all entirely in round holes.
