Timiryazev is a Russian naturalist, a specialist in plant physiology, a major researcher of photosynthesis, one of the first propagandists of Darwins ideas about evolution in Russia, a popularizer and historian of science, an honored professor at Moscow University. He discovered that red and blue rays of the spectrum serve for photosynthesis. The portrait was painted for the exhibition "Lets Defend Timiryazevka", which is currently taking place in the Park Gallery on Nemchinov Street. This is an action to protect Timiryazev fields from residential development.
