The pastel study “Pearl Canyon. Bozzhira” (2739 cm, 2025) was created en plein air during a spring journey through Bozzhira, a breathtaking chalk canyon in Western Kazakhstan — the ancient bottom of the Tethys Ocean.

In the rays of the evening sun, the chalk cliffs shimmer with pearl shades — from pink and blue to golden tones. In the foreground, rough boulders and a narrow path lead deep into the canyon, bordered by sparse desert vegetation. Early spring still holds the land in its quiet sleep after the winter frost.
