“Spain: assemblage point” is a collage painting assembled by the artist from personal photographs.
In the central image, I embody myself—a Russian traveler who, upon entering Spanish territory, does not lose her identity.
On the skirt, “geology of impressions” features patterns of minerals from the Guiminer Museum, as well as ancient ornaments and a golden bird from the Museum of America in Madrid. I take photographs consciously so that I can use them in my work later.
In the background is the Sagrada Familia, inside which is a mosaic from one of the buildings in Park Gell. In my right hand, I hold a turret from the Casa Batll building. Every detail is important in architecture: even the kokoshnik is part of it, the top of a door in Madrid.
In my left hand is jamn, a super popular Spanish food.
The sea and sky are real shots, Barcelona captured in September 2025.
And the smallest symbols:
“The Bear and the Strawberry Tree” is a sculpture in Madrids square, reflecting the 13th-century dispute between the church and the city over land ownership.
The plant on the girls neck is an unopened magnolia grandiflora, which grows in Spain.
The detail on the sea is a piece from Boschs painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” which I photographed at the Prado Museum.
By combining popular facts with intimate fragments of memory in the painting, I convey the commonality between myself and other travelers using the language of art.
