Biography

Svetlana Sablina (SvetLadushka / SvetLadushka, Altair) is an artist working in the field of abstract painting. She was born in 1977 in the city of Kamyshin, Volgograd Region. She lives and works in Russia.

She received her professional art education at the Kamyshin College of Arts (1998, Design, Honors Diploma) and at the Saint Petersburg State Academy of Service and Economics (2004, Costume Design, Honors Diploma). Her background in design and theatrical costume has influenced the development of spatial, rhythmic, and compositional thinking in her painting practice.

Since the late 1990s, she has been actively engaged in artistic practice. She has participated in city and regional exhibitions in Kamyshin and Volgograd. Since 2010, she has realized a number of solo exhibition projects in regional exhibition spaces. Among her solo exhibitions are “A Luminous Image Drawn with a Dark Line” (2010), “Wings of the Soul” (2020), and “The Artist’s Path: 25 Years of Practice” (2025).

Svetlana Sablina’s artistic practice has evolved from graphic works and figurative series toward abstract painting. Since 2019, her focus on abstraction has become increasingly defined, and from 2023–2024 onward her work has been centered on painting of states, developed through an authorial approach to abstraction and pointillism. Dot-based and painterly structures function as a method of fixing psycho-emotional and bodily states experienced during the working process.

Her works are created in series and are intended for slow, contemplative perception. The artist’s attention is directed toward processuality, rhythm, color, and the density of the pictorial field. The painting is understood not as representation, but as a trace of lived experience and a space for internal attunement between the work and the viewer.

Alongside her painting practice, the artist works with graphic media. Since 2026, part of her graphic series has been created under the authorial name Altair, conceived as an independent artistic line focused on the exploration of image, structure, and symbolic thinking within the graphic medium.

The artist also has experience working in theater and film. In 1999, she participated in costume production for a film project at Lenfilm Studio. From 2018 to 2019, she worked as a costume and prop artist at the Kamyshin Drama Theatre. She has taken part in professional competitions and fashion shows for young designers in Saint Petersburg, including international festivals and exhibition projects.
