Sunflowers

This powerful artwork was created in 2003 from life and belongs to the author’s series The Sunniest Flowers. For this painting, the sunflowers were specially grown by my sister — not identical greenhouse ones or giant field varieties, but real garden flowers, each with its own individuality. Some were large and blooming, others still in buds. This natural uniqueness gave life to the artwork.
The bouquet in a glass vase, placed in front of a mirror, was painted with bold, expressive brush and palette knife strokes. While the composition evokes associations with Van Gogh, it preserves its own authorial energy and atmosphere.
