One summer evening, walking in the garden, I stopped near a huge bush of flowering peonies. The setting sun illuminated the thin purple petals of these wonderful flowers, which made it seem as if the whole bush was glowing with some kind of haze. And large flowers form strange figures, as if communicating with someone by signs. I was so inspired by this silent grace that, when I got home, I sat down at the easel, finishing painting this picture only at dawn.
