Ararat valley is a plain on the territory of the Armenian highland, which is located in the Caucasus region to the West of the famous Armenian lake Sevan, in the foothills of Gegham mountain. In the North of the plain is the border of mount Aragats, and in the South - mount Ararat. The Arax river divides the plain into two parts: the greater, the Northern, which belongs to Armenia, and the southern, the smaller, which belongs to Turkey. The height above sea level is 800-1000 meters and the length is about 90 kilometers.
Irrigation agriculture is developed on the plain. Fields are irrigated by the waters of the river Araks and sevjur, Kasakh, Hrazdan (left tributaries of the Araks). In the warm season over the plain you can observe the most beautiful natural phenomenon – the true sunshine.
Today there is such an environmental problem as desertification of Ararat plain.
