Spitamen

A Sogdian military commander who led the uprising in Sogdiana and Bactria against Alexander the Great in 329-327 BC.

Modern historians consider him one of the most ardent opponents of Alexander.

Spitamen was a representative of the Sogdian aristocracy, which was in the service of the Achaemenids.

Abandoned by many of his followers, Spitamen fled to the Massagets, but they, fearing Alexanders revenge, preferred to make peace with him. In the winter of 328/327 BC, Spitamen was killed by the nomad leaders, and they sent the fugitives head to the king.
