Biography

Born in 1966 in Kazakhstan.
Works on monumental and easel compositions, sculptural portraits, successfully engaged in painting, graphics, medallion art, installation. He works in a wide stylistic spectrum - from the use of techniques of realism and new classics in portraits easily and organically passes to grotesque stylizations, often acts as a neo-archaic, inspired by the style of ancient Russian iconography and far Eastern plastics. The artist appeals to various historical examples of world art. In the process of creative development, the sculptor creates his own unique language.
The concept of Serikzhan Ishchanov's creativity is based on a complex system of metamorphoses, unexpected transformations and associations both in works of easel and monumental plastics, as well as in paintings, graphics, and works of decorative and applied art. Turning rather late to painting, in his monumental opuses, which are akin to fresco cycles, he develops the idea of the self-sufficient value of an artistic work, in creating a humanistic antithesis to the mythological, virtual values of a technocratic civilization
