Biography

ANDREY ZEFIROV (1932–2017) is a famous Moscow painter, the son of the artist Konstantin Zefirov. In 1948 he entered the Department of Stage Design, Moscow Municipal School of Art. From 1951 to 1960 he studied at the Sculpture Department at Moscow Higher School of Art and Industry (formerly named after Stroganov). Since 1962 Zefirov has taken part in numerous exhibitions. In 1966 he was awarded the gold medal of the 7th International Placard Contest in Bologna (Italy) as a member of the soviet team of poster artists. He has been a fellow of the Artist’s Union since 1977 and of the International Arts Fund since 1993. Beside working in ornamental art, poster and book design he has always painted in oils and watercolours. Since the early 1990s Zefirov has devoted himself exclusively to painting, mainly to still life and landscape, trying to catch the first impression which is often very subtle and vague, but also the brightest and the most acute. In this sense he is a true impressionist, both in form and essence. The artist has exhibited his paintings and sculptures in a number of one-man shows. His works are kept in many collections in Russia, France, Germany, the USA, Spain and Israel.
