Peonies

The work was done from life during the very short blooming season of these truly royal flowers.
The painting depicts a freshly cut lush bouquet of peonies in a simple glass vase against a contrasting deep blue-violet background and natural active shadows.
It is precisely this contrast that so delicately and tenderly allows one to observe the play of light on the velvety surfaces of the petals, their delicate texture during a sunny day.
For me, this work is not just beautiful peonies in fresh water, but above all a mood – lyrical, slightly sad, but very bright, kind, and harmonious.
