Gitanes

This work immerses the viewer in the atmosphere of the French new wave, combining the aesthetics of cinema of the mid-20th century with the romance of simple street scenes. The two characters depicted on the canvas walk together along the wet pavement in a light fog, their images seem to be cut out of the frame of a retro movie. The free line, the emphasis on details of clothing and movement, combined with the laconic background, create associations with Jean-Luc Godards films and the atmosphere of Parisian streets.

The viewers special attention is attracted by a blue pack of Gitanes cigarettes, which does not accidentally appear in the pocket of one of the characters, as a trademark of the era and an allusion to the legendary French culture. The combination of pale and bright tones, spots of light and fog floating above the pavement fill the stage with a sense of easy freedom, fleetness and charm.
