What a unique and captivating sunset it was today. I never cease to be amazed at how quickly the sun sets. All day long, it travels sedately across the sky, and the overall visual picture changes quite smoothly. But as sunset approaches, it feels like time begins to compress. As if Someone is playing a widescreen film. At first, the speed is normal, but then it gradually increases. The frames follow each other more and more quickly. And finally, two completely different scenes can be separated by a mere moment. The enormous red disk of the sun plunges swiftly into the boundless ocean. Dancing waves play with the sun, sometimes hiding it, then revealing it again for a moment, at least a fragment. And then the sun is no longer visible, but if you jump high on an incoming wave, you can still see its edge, peer over the horizon. One wave, two, three... And then youre floating carefree, because jump or dont jump, you wont see the sun until morning.
For some reason, it was at that beautiful moment, watching the sun set over the horizon, that I felt most clearly, perhaps for the first time in my life, that the Earth is round. I lay on the waves, admiring the clouds drifting above me, trying to memorize and absorb this elusive, unique beauty.
