How it was created
The work took more than three months to complete. It began with a small color sketch, followed by a large canvas that demanded new solutions. The rose was painted in layers of oil, but in a large format it seemed to ask for an additional frame. This led to the idea of a plaster drapery.
The canvas was carefully wrapped in transparent polyethylene, and over it I shaped the folds with plaster while keeping the rose visible beneath. For more than a month the drapery was strengthened layer by layer, dried naturally, and finally painted with oil paints in soft hues. The finished piece was sealed with protective varnish.
