Poor little bird

This work depicts a still life of ceramic whistle birds, which are very common in Central Asia, and especially in Uzbekistan. Similar objects are found in excavations throughout the region, and they are closely linked to the general pre-Islamic cults. From each of my travels, I try to bring back such whistles — in the painting, I have a pelican from Khiva, and the brown bird was brought by me from Bukhara. The yellow one was made and given to me by the artist Zi Kahramonova. In the painting, I wanted to convey an overall slightly satirical mood, which is why it is seasoned with a phrase from Shurik in the film Kidnapping, Caucasian Style. And indeed, it really is a pity…
