The painting shows a girl in a lush Venetian costume and a mysterious mask, behind which it is impossible to guess her state, emotions and mood. And we all put on masks from time to time. Because sometimes it is scary. Scary to be misunderstood, rejected, to reveal too much about yourself. But in her hands she holds a small steering wheel. Because even when we hide behind a mask, we still hold the steering wheel of our own lives.
And it is up to us to continue hiding or to decide to be ourselves, even if it is a little scary. This work is a reminder that masks can sometimes save, but they can also suffocate. That true support is not in the approval of others, but in accepting yourself.
