This painting merges the architectural language of the 19th century with the forms of the 21st: the silhouette of a futuristic skyscraper interrupts the classical landscape of Saint Petersburg. The scene is wrapped in soft morning fog, evoking a subtle tension. Figures in elegant period dress stroll calmly across the damp pavement, seemingly unaware of time’s sly interference.

A genre scene transforms into a visual illusion, where the past and future exist side by side. This work continues Gulyaev’s Phantasmagorias series, in which he explores temporal paradoxes, urban mirages, and the dreamlike logic of impossibility.
