Barbarians (ancient Greek: , barbaros - "non-Greek", "foreigner") - people who were foreigners for the ancient Greeks, and then for the Romans, spoke a language they did not understand and were alien to their culture. In modern times, barbarians began to denote groups of peoples who invaded the borders of the Roman Empire, taking advantage of its weakening, and founded independent states on its territory.
