A study with an old window. From a series of sketches with platbands of the city of Tomsk. My painting depicts an old window surrounded by a carved wooden casing, which has not seen the caring hand of the owner for a long time. The snow covered it thickly, creating a snow-white blanket, like a blanket sheltering from the harsh winter.
The shutters framing the window look battered by time and bad weather. One of them is slightly tilted, its hinges creak under the weight of years, and the other barely holds on, as if on its last breath. The wood has darkened and cracked, covered with a grid of small cracks.
It is a reminder that even in abandonment and desolation one can find ones own beauty and poetry, the value of which increases with each passing year.
