Still life with mirror and dahlias

According to one local legend, dahlias arose on the site of the last dying fire at the onset of the Ice Age, as a sign that the cold is not eternal, that life and joy on earth will be resurrected. It was the first to sprout from the ground after the arrival of warmth, and by its flowering it marked the victory of life over death, warmth over cold.
