My goal is to draw attention to the beauty of cities. Most often people admire nature because it is incredible, especially mountains. We admire nature because it is impressive in scale.
At the same time, it is as if the power of man is sidelined, human labor is devalued. Whereas a city created by human hands is incredible. People have thought, invented, created. Cities are the truest places of power, they inspire awe and respect because of the labor put into them. We visit cities, feel the energy and give our own in return, and when we return we miss the moments we have lived. This is how we create a cycle of energy in nature.
That is why I travel to cities and paint them in hyperrealism, to masterfully show every detail and create the effect of presence, to prolong the journey. In this way, I too am a creator, certainly not on the same scale as the builders of great cathedrals or dams, but I too leave behind a legacy.
Volterra, floating in the clouds, fascinated me with the way people create cities in the mountains. The perfection of its beautiful houses, flooded with light on a sunny day, reminds me of the incredible strength of peoples minds and the strength of their bodies. I will definitely visit Volterra this year and find my place of strength in its fall perfection.
