The hot summer is already at an end, and now sunflowers have fallen into my hands, but not the usual yellow ones, which are often seen on the canvases of many artists, but green ones, still just ripening. And so, having supplemented the "Don bouquet" with horse sorrel, picked up in the steppe, and garden sour apples with purple tan, the idea was born to paint this still life in grassy tones. The hats of the unripe sunflowers were so heavy with seeds that the vase barely held them in its circumference. In my still life, I wanted to leave a feeling of etude and expression, the midday heat, the dryness of the steppe and the asceticism of the colors of the Don Region.
