At the word tulips, everyone has their own associations. Someone has them white, red, someone has them open, fragrant, with a fringe on the petals.
But is there a collective image? The tulip that everyone knows and loves?
Looking back, I remember bright scarlet tulips with a black center and a heady smell. These used to be given to teachers, laid on the Eternal Flame, plucked in the yards for mothers, worn on dates. Such a flower is more a symbol than just a tulip.
