Christmas cactus schlumbergera botanical painting

I painted this picture for the final round of the Botanical Battle on Instagram - the largest online botanical art competition. Out of 150 participants (who passed the selection), only 10 made it to the final of the competition, and I was among them.

The task was a botanical illustration on the "winter" theme and I chose Schlumbergera, it is a plant that blooms in December, therefore it is called a Christmas cactus. It fascinated me with its bright, bizarre flowers, similar to fluttering butterflies.

Later this artwork participated in the Exhibition of botanical art «Autumn flapped with a brush» organized by SABA (Society of Artists of Botanical Art) in All-Russian Exhibition Center in Moscow 26/11/2021-26/12/2021.

This detailed realistic illustration is an original, one of a kind hand drawn artwork. It was done with lightfast professional watercolors on archival acid free watercolor paper.
