On the way to Badajoz

During the Iberian Wars, after the capture of the border cities of Almeida and Ciudad Rodrigo, the army of Earl Wellington moved south to Badajoz to capture this border city and provide lines of communication with Lisbon, the main base of the allied army.
The garrison of Badajoz consisted of approximately 5,000 French soldiers under the command of General Arman Filippon, and the city itself had strong fortifications. This siege was one of the bloodiest.
Impressed by these events, I painted this picture.
