Sunset in Veliky Ustyug

The artist painted this life-size sketch in one session in the Alla Prima style in Veliky Ustyug during a creative trip to the Russian North while studying at the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.
This work is a tranquil, enchanting landscape, distinguished by its serene depiction of sunset over the city of Veliky Ustyug. The sky is a vibrant tapestry of purple, pink, and orange hues, skillfully rendered to capture the fleeting beauty of twilight. The reflection in the Sukhona River adds depth and a mirror-like sheen, enhancing the symmetry of the composition.
