Biography.
Aleksei A.Smirnov was born in Leningrad in 1950. In 1978 he graduated from the Vera Mukhina Higher School of Art and Design (now the Stieglitz Saint Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy). A master of the political poster, he published with the Plakat publishing house of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. He took part in numerous exhibits on the city, republic, country and international levels. His posters have appeared in Decorative Arts of the USSR (the monthly journal of the Artists’ Union of the USSR), 1984 and in the album “Satire Fights for Peace” published by Plakat in Moscow, 1985. In the 1990’s he mainly worked with sculpture. He designed the tombstone for one of the organizers of the Road of Life evacuation route from the besieged Leningrad, commissioned by the automotive organizations in the city. He also painted murals and designed interiors. Recently he has been occupied with oil painting and works on paper.
