A copy of a still life with a Chinese vase by Edward Ladell

canvas/oil 50cm x 40cm 2021
And again the little Dutch… This time, a still life with a Chinese vase by Edward Ladell (1821-1886) is a British self-taught artist, a brilliant master of still life, who developed his own style of writing still lifes, but certainly turned to the Dutch tradition. On the one hand, it is a meditative process, on the other, it is akin to a rebus - how did the artist apply layers, what colors did he mix?... It is interesting to study every stroke, every detail, the sequence of application. A very long and painstaking work was done according to all the rules of Dutch painting of that time. First, the drawing is shaded by the grisaille method, and only after that in color. The painting was painted in 2021, has the authors signature on the front and back, is completely ready to be hung on the wall.
