The painting by Karl Briullov after his arrival in Italy in 1823. Lighting plays an important role of the painting, the artist himself wrote about it: "I covered the model in the sun, assuming the lighting in the rear, so the face and chest in the shade and reflections from the fountain, illuminated by the sun, making all the shadows are much nicer in comparison with a simple window lighting."
