Icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.
There is hardly a saint more revered and widely known than Saint Nicholas. In Orthodox churches and domestic collections, his icons occupy prominent places next to those of Christ, the Theotokos and the Holy Trinity. A byword for kindness and magnanimity, he is the patron saint of multiple big cities and countries.

He is glorified as a wonderworker for the multiple miracles he wrought in his lifetime and posthumously. He has brought healing to the terminally ill and delivered people from misfortunes and mortal dangers.

On icons, St. Nicholas appears at full and half-length, projecting an image of wisdom and kindness. He is portrayed as an elder with a short beard and grey hair, wearing a mitre and carrying a gospel. Some icons depict him in full festive vestments, and sometimes with a sword. Many of his icons are miracle-working.
We turn to his icons to pray for peace in our families, relief from our troubles and illnesses, and strengthening of our faith and wisdom to make key decisions in our lives.
Commemorated on December 19, May 22 (translation of his holy relics to Bari, Italy), and August 11 (the saints birthday).
