JOHN THE BAPTIST (Greek: ) - A prophet who was born six months before Christ, and since he announced the news of the coming of the Messiah - Christ, he was also called the Forerunner (the one who goes ahead, runs ahead Mark 1:2). The Savior said of John that he was the greatest of those born of women (Matthew 11:11), that before him were "the law and the prophets" (Luke 16:16) and that from him the Kingdom of God was preached through the Gospel.
