We won't go to the ball

A free illustration to the story by A. Pushkin "The Queen of Spades" shows the moment when the old countess tells poor Liza that they will not go to the ball today. This happens because Liza is overdressed for the trip, and the countess thinks that it is not worth wasting time and energy on such things. In general, this madam abused Liza all her life, but she managed not to go crazy and not to get angry. That is why Lizas line interested me more than anyone else.
