The building depicted in this artwork is standing along the embankment of Fontanka river in Saint Petersburg close to Anichkov bridge. The mansion was built in the beginning of the 18th century and then rebuilt in neobarocco style by architect V.Langvagen in 1843. The building is known as the mansion of countess Karlova - she was a wealthy philanthropist and grandmother to prince G. Golitsyn, who has made a huge contribution to the development of cultural bounds between Russia and Europe. Now this mansion serves as home to the foreign department of V.Mayakovskiy Public Library and the Memorial Library of Prince Golitsyn.
