Volga Bulgaria is a medieval highly developed state that was located on the territories of modern Chuvashia, Tatarstan and Bashkiria. The beginning of the Mongol invasion of these lands is considered to be 1223. The Mongols lost the first battles. It took more than 15 years for the Mongols to completely conquer Bulgaria. The leopard (white leopard) is an animal mentioned in the legends of Bulgaria, and is also present on the symbols of modern Tatarstan.
