"… Basilica de Santa Maria (5) - pseudo-gothic cathedral with a double bell tower and walls of pinkish stone stood out among the brown mountain slopes, surrounded by a suite of leafless trees. The sun suddenly appeared and again hid in the clouds. The work went well, one was bad: from time to time the clouds were creeping from the mountains, and then the rain fell, slightly, or more forcefully, threatening to wash off the image already deposited on the paper…
…Rainy cloud faded away, the sun was peeping out, I painted feverishly, glancing at the next cloud creeping out from behind the stone top, which immediately began to rain again, and again with both hands held a bony umbrella over the album…
…The sun glittering in the last minute snatched out from green-brown masses the openwork crowns and pale yellow trunks of bare trees on the slope beneath the walls of the cathedral, and so I depicted them…"
