Menshikov orders to bury the Filthy Ponds

From the history of Chistoprudny Boulevard... There is a version that the ponds got their name this way: within the White City - a fortified area between todays Myasnitskaya and Pokrovka - there was a pond that Muscovites called Pogany, Pogany swamp or even Pogany puddle. In 1699, Alexander Menshikov acquired an estate on Myasnitskaya Street. Menshikov ordered the pond to be cleared of debris, stinking areas to be filled in, buildings to be put in order, and butchers and slaughterhouse owners to be relocated to other parts of the city. He also built the Menshikov Tower. It was after these works that the pond received a new name - Chisty (Clean).
The work was created for an exhibition dedicated to the route of tram No. 3, which begins at the Chistye Prudy metro station.
