The cathedral of St. Nicholas was built on the ruins of a Muslim mosque in the heart of the city of Alicante in the 17th century. This is a rather strict and restrained exterior structure, built in the style of the late Renaissance with elements of the early Baroque. St. Nicholas is considered the patron of Alicante.
