Biography

ARTIST STATEMENT

My painting is a space of light gathered into form. I work with texture as living matter, creating surfaces where light does not reflect but emerges from within. Through relief, layering, and gesture, I explore inner presence, silence, and stability.

The central direction of my practice is the Portal of Light series. Here I address inner transition and the preservation of light during change. The luminous oval—an archetypal form—symbolizes the human core and point of support. It appears in different states: attraction, ðàñêðûòèå, concentration, protection. Each work becomes a field of strength and visual focus.

Alongside this, I develop a naïve painting direction, using simplified forms, symbolic figures, and expressive color fields to explore light, trust, and harmony. The clarity of image allows me to speak about profound experiences in an open and gentle way.

Three states are essential in my practice: light, inner micro-drama, and spatial softness. I use layered textures, modeling paste, acrylic, and premium materials, working with palette knife and hands. Material is an active participant, shaping tension and depth.

My work seeks to create a quiet, luminous space for personal reflection and inner steadiness.

BIO

Elena Russkikh (b. February 10, 1986, Krasnoyarsk) is a contemporary Russian artist whose practice combines textured abstraction, symbolism, and an authorial interpretation of naïve art. Her work develops in two interconnected directions: materially layered abstraction and simplified figurative compositions, where clarity of form conveys complex inner states.

In her textured works, light is explored as an internal experience, emerging from layered relief and gesture. In her naïve paintings, simplified figures, symbolic landscapes, and bold color fields express harmony, support, and trust in life. Both directions are united by an interest in the human inner center and the search for stability in a changing world.

A self-taught artist, she actively participates in Russian and international exhibitions. Her works are held in private collections and valued in interior contexts for their emotional clarity, expressive color, and ability to create warmth and balance within space.

Artistic Style Concept

Archetypal Center
The key motif is the luminous oval — a soft, organic yet powerful form through which light flows. It symbolizes the human inner core, a source of spiritual strength and quiet presence. Across different series, the oval appears as a portal, inner light, or a protected value, forming a consistent visual code.

Living Relief
Texture functions as living matter and a carrier of meaning. Relief is created using texture paste, palette knives, and hand gestures, forming soft transitions, deep recesses, and micro-ruptures. The surface is perceived as “living skin,” conveying emotional and spiritual states.

Light Dramaturgy
The foundation of the composition is not depiction, but the process of light’s emergence. Light unfolds in layers: from a deep background through a luminous center to a subtle, almost sacred accent. In some works, light is surrounded by protective structures — visual metaphors of Guardians preserving inner radiance.

Premium Palette
The palette is built on restrained, noble acrylic tones: white, indigo, deep blue, violet, turquoise, and chocolate. Metallic pigments — gold, bronze, copper, brass, pearl — are used sparingly as rare “points of light,” enhancing depth and status.

Emotional Architecture
Compositions balance three states: silence, inner tension, and radiance. This creates an inner spatial effect where the viewer can slow down, focus, and experience a personal encounter with the artwork.
