Biography
Oksana Appel (born in Tomsk, 1976) is an artist, educator, and researcher in decorative and applied arts. A graduate of Kemerovo State University of Culture and Arts, she is a member of the Union of Russian Artists and the International Association of Art Educators. She is a laureate of international and national exhibitions, festivals, and competitions.
Beginning her career in the Kemerovo region, Oksana now lives and works in Goryachy Klyuch, Krasnodar Krai. Beyond her artistic practice, she has authored several academic publications on the development of decorative and applied arts. For her longstanding dedication, contributions, and preservation of Kuzbass’ cultural heritage, she was awarded an Honorary Certificate by the Department of Culture and National Policy of Kemerovo Oblast, as well as by the Administration of Goryachy Klyuch.
Her art is an exploration of nature through symbolism and abstraction. Rejecting conventional painting techniques, she works with textiles—fabric, wool, and other textured materials—to create emotionally charged, one-of-a-kind pieces. Her formal training allows her to blend classical methods with experimental approaches, such as textile collage and patchwork.
In recent years, she has focused on fiber art, merging traditional motifs with contemporary design. Each element in her work carries profound meaning, reflecting natural cycles and the relationship between humans and the environment. Alongside creating art, she conducts workshops and seminars, mentoring emerging artists. This synergy of research and creativity results in works that resonate with both audiences and art professionals.
Her pieces are held in private collections.
