Biography


Yuri SHTELE

Painter and drawing artist, landscape and still-life painter.
Yuri Shtele was born in Moscow in 1950. In 1969–1973 he studied in the
Art Department of the Moscow State University of Printing Arts. His teachers were Andrey Goncharov, Yuri Burjelyan, Aleksei Kamensky and Dmitry Zhilinsky. Upon graduation from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts, Yuri worked as a book artist and authored a number of design projects. In 1977 he entered the Committee of the Drawing Artists of the City of Moscow. Yuri Shtele has participated in exhibitions since 1977. His first personal exhibition was held in Bruxelles in 1991. Yuri turned to easel painting during the late 1980s. In the 1990s, he visited Italy and France several times, where he created landscape series, dedicated to the interpretation of architectural images of well-known European cities. His leading creative motif were landscapes with fantasy scenes of Venice.
Yuri Shtele is a notable master of the early 21st century, following up the best traditions of the Russian Impressionism. A typical manifestation of the individual manner of Shtele is impressionist painting elements, a vibrant brushstroke, an extremely expressive color range, exploration of light effects and incorporation of fantasy images in the plot.
The artist refers to his style as «associative expressionism». Shtele strives to attain an ideal harmony and expression of spirituality, being sensitive to any manifestation of beauty.
Yuri Shtele is a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia (CUAR) and of the International Association of the Drawing Artists of the UNESCO.
The works by Yuri Shtele are stored in the collections of the Heritage Institute (Moscow), Garanti Bank (Istanbul) and private collections in Russia, the United States, Italy, France, Turkey, South Korea and Japan.
