The works central message: "We choose what to leave behind: a dark void and pain, or love and hope for a brighter life."

The work tells the story of two real people whose addictions destroyed almost their entire family, leaving only their sisters children.

The story of how a brother and sister, who from their youth destroyed themselves and all relationships around them, all kindness and care, descended into a living hell.
Brother couldnt overcome his addiction, killed his wife and child, then exhausted himself and died. He left behind memories of grief and pain.
Sister gradually overcame her addiction for the sake of her children, but her health no longer allowed her to live. The children (now adults) remember the good times they had with their mother, the hope for a future she gave them and tried to build. She left behind warmth and life.

The painting is done on canvas using the volumetric technique, painted with oil, and covered with acrylic primer.
