This studio painting was inspired by dozens of trips to Dombay — a place I’ve returned to more than twenty times. Belalakaya and Peak of Sofrudzhu are majestic, instantly recognizable peaks, woven from light and silence. Like everything in the mountains, they change constantly — with the weather, the season, the time of day. In this work, I wanted to capture them bathed in the warm light of the setting sun.
I set out to convey the feeling of soft golden radiance flowing over the slopes. There are no harsh contrasts here — only smooth transitions of color and light, creating a sense of inner stillness and openness. This is a painting about a blessed moment, when everything falls into place.
