...Shestov and Camus. «The Apotheosis of Groundlessness» and «The Myth of Sisyphus». A small man cast into an alien, incomprehensible, fundamentally unknowable and hostile World. Philosophys eternal questions. The absurdity of existence and rejection of «eternal principles». Rebellion. And Camus immortal words: «There is but one truly serious philosophical problem...»
The small man – hes in the upper left corner of the painting. Hes tiny compared to the surrounding space. The space is grim urbanity, deliberately stripped of color and form. The man is leaving; we see his back and his arms flung wide in emotion. The world, people – weve all sickened him to death! Sickened him to the point of nausea, whether we truly exist or whether the Wachowskis are right and this is all just the Matrix.
...And Huxley – he was convinced Earth is Hell for some other planet!
But enough tragedy! «A burp interrupts the most sublime human reflections. From this, if you wish, you may draw conclusions—or, if you prefer, draw none at all» (c) Lev Shestov.
