Biography
Greetings!
Sometimes all it takes is a single moment: a ray of dawn, the dance of shadows, the whisper of the wind, the touch of dew on a leaf. It is precisely these fragile, fleeting instants that settle onto the canvas, coming alive in color and form. Each work is an attempt to arrest a moment, preserve silence, and convey the breath of nature and the light hidden within its depths.
My name is Dmitry Kir. I was born in 1977 in Kaliningrad.
For over twenty years, I have worked in residential renovation, interior design, and the selection of decorative solutions. Painting became a natural extension of this practice—a way to infuse space with atmosphere and emotional depth.
Through painting, I strive to speak a wordless language—a language that conveys feelings, tunes the soul to contemplation, and helps us hear the unseen. My works become spaces for meditative immersion, invitations to slow down, to feel, and to listen to the subtle vibrations of the world—the harmony so often missing in the rush of daily life.
Travel is a constant source of inspiration. I often work en plein air, making sketches to capture light, color, and mood. Later, in the studio—whether in silence or accompanied by music, with a cup of herbal tea or my favorite coffee—a dialogue with the canvas begins. The meeting of brush and surface becomes a metaphysical act, where each line and each stroke breathes life into the work.
Color is the language I speak. My palette reflects mood, hope, and an inner faith in beauty and goodness. Inspiration comes from the great masters of the past and talented contemporary artists, from nature in its seasonal transformations, from light filtering through foliage or reflecting off glass. I delight in observing how a hue shifts under different lighting, times of day, and states of mind.
Series and Artistic Directions
The Aesthetics of a Dark Palette: minimalist landscapes rendered in deep tones, focused on inner light and tranquility.
Birch Light: intimate works with delicate color harmonies, where each stroke sparkles like a gemstone.
In the Beginning…: a series inspired by biblical stories and spiritual quests, in which meaning and inner reflection take center stage.
Interior-scale canvases in modern impressionist and realist styles, designed to create atmosphere, movement, and a sense of space.
Materials and Technique I work with oil, tempera, acrylic, and fabric. My arsenal includes noble materials—23-karat gold, silver, palladium, decorative gold leaf, and Swarovski crystals. I also love experimenting with monotype, valuing its spontaneity and its ability to capture texture, structure, and moods that cannot be replicated.
My paintings adorn private homes, apartments, and offices, creating an atmosphere of light, depth, and inner equilibrium. They are part of collections both in Russia and abroad, ranging from intimate series to large-scale interior installations.
