Balaclava

The painting depicts a view of the city of Balaklava from the fortress of Cembalo (Italian: Cembalo) - a Genoese fortress on the territory of Balaklava, a suburb of Sevastopol. It was the administrative center of the consulate of the same name. In the 15th-18th centuries, it was under the control of the Ottoman Empire and was called Balklava (Crimean: Balqlava). The ensemble of fortifications is located on the top and slopes of Mount Krepostnaya (formerly Kastron). It is currently in ruins and serves as the main attraction of the city.
