I spent a few free days at the dacha, witnessing the melting of our reservoir for the first time – before my eyes, in three days, it transformed from a frozen plain into a clear, cold surface of water. It was precisely this transitional period that I was trying to depict in this, my first work of the year. However, I encountered two curious phenomena. First, the March sun, reflecting off the surface of the white canvas, did its best to blind me. Second, at the very beginning, I had marked the position of the ice floes and began sketching the distant forest. A few hours later, when it came to the water, I was surprised to discover that the ice floes had completely changed their positions! Previously, I thought the melting process of reservoirs was very slow and static, but now I realize I was wrong.
