Shiva absorbs poison from the World Ocean, and the nagas help Him

The picture illustrates a well-known story from the Puranas, in which Shiva saves the universe from mortal danger by absorbing a terrible poison-halakhala, released as a result of churning of the World Ocean. The Naga people, the subjects of the Snake King Vasuki, selflessly help Him.
